The OZ-one produces Ozone (O3). Ozone is composed of three oxygen atoms joined together. Two oxygen atoms joined together form the basic oxygen molecule O2. An additional oxygen atom makes ozone which is an unstable, highly reactive gas. Ozone is found naturally in two areas of the Earth’s atmosphere: in the upper atmosphere and at ground level.
Ozone is also created when the kind of oxygen we breathe—O2—is split apart by sunlight into single oxygen atoms. Single oxygen atoms can re-join to make O2, or they can join with O2 molecules to make ozone (O3). Ozone is destroyed when it reacts with molecules containing nitrogen, hydrogen, chlorine, or bromine. Ozone has approximately twice the oxidising potential of chlorine and has a half-life of about 12 hours in open air. Ozone destroys bacteria by attacking the glycoproteins and glycolipids in the cell membrane results in rupture of the cell.
Ozone can be produced by a high energy electrical discharge which is created by high voltage.
